Battle-Tested Jetty Fishing Gear: The Wallaroo Gear Lab

Summary of what we provide and why you should contact us

Your Window to the Yorke: Real-Time Updates, Local Stories, and the Best Gear for the Gulf.

The sheer scale of Wallaroo Jetty makes it an absolute playground for anglers, but its unique structural transition means you can’t use a “one-size-fits-all” approach to your tackle.

The first 540 meters are entirely open to the public, sitting over shallower sand patches and closer-in ribbon weed. Past that point lies the commercial end, pushing out to the 800-meter mark into deep, fast-moving gulf currents where heavy industrial pylons dictate the fight.

To maximize your catch rate and stop the harsh Spencer Gulf salt from destroying your gear, we have curated the ultimate, battle-tested “Jetty Kits” specifically optimized for each section of the planks.

The "Public Section" Kit (0m – 540m)

  • Target Species: Southern Calamari (Squid), Garfish, Tommy Ruffs (Arripis georgianus), and Yellowfin Whiting.

  • The Environment: Shallower, clearer water over sand and patch weed. This area requires stealth, long casts, and highly sensitive, lightweight tackle.

PLUSINNO Carbon Fiber Telescopic Combo

The Light-Tactics Rod & Reel Combo

When you are walking the first few hundred meters of the jetty, you want a lightweight setup that you can cast all day without fatigue. PLUSINNO Carbon Fiber Telescopic Combo - High-density carbon fiber, easily collapses for travel, smooth drag.

Why it works here: This combo is ideal for flicking pencil floats for Garfish or working a Size 2.5 squid jig over the inner weed lines. It offers the perfect balance of sensitivity and convenience for slow traveling around the peninsula.

The Public Section Essentials

The Float Setup: Thill Premium Weighted Pencil Floats These are mandatory for Wallaroo Garfish. They sit perfectly vertical in the water and register the slightest dip or sideways drag when a school moves through. < Features soft latex tubing for securely attaching float to line

Buoyant balsa body rides lower on the shortened float shaft

Available in both slip and spring float models for any float fishing application

Yamashita Egi Oh Live Series (Size 3.0)

The Jig Choice:

The perfect mid-sized jig for the inner jetty. Its slow, horizontal sink rate keeps it right in the strike zone of hungry calamari without immediately snagging on the shallow structure. Size: No. 3.0 Weight: 0.5 oz (15 g); Sinking Speed: Approx. 3.5 seconds per m Neon Bright: The optimum UV light emitting appeal according to the tide color and light level Partial Tape: The wide dart unique to live provides a flimsy appeal

The "Deep Water" Kit (540m – 800m)

  • Target Species: Large Snook, Trevally, Mulloway, and seasonal Pelagics. (Note: Always check PIRSA guidelines regarding current Spencer Gulf snapper recovery closures). pir.sa.gov.au

  • The Environment: Deep water, strong tidal pulls, and high-altitude rail fishing (up to 8 meters above the water line). This is heavy-duty territory where your gear must endure intense torque.

The Heavy-Duty Pier Combo

You cannot bring a light rod to the commercial end. When a big Snook hits near the industrial pylons, you need brute lifting power to stop them from busting you off on the concrete. KastKing Centron Spinning Combo (6-Foot). Why it works here: The extra length allows you to clear the wide structural beams of the commercial end, while the heavy backbone gives you the leverage needed to fight fish from a high platform.

The Landing Tool: KastKing Pontus Folding Landing Net

Do not risk hand-lining a quality fish up an 8-meter concrete pylon. This long-reach, heavy-duty net is an absolute insurance policy for your dinner. High-quality Components & Floating Design: High-quality 6063 Aluminum alloy handle and FBR frame for exceptional durability. The net is designed with floating EVA foam padding, making it easier to retrieve from the water without risk of losing it.

The Night Light: Cobalt Blue LED Clip-On Rod Tip Lights

Essential for the night-fishing crowd targeting Snook past the gates. They clip firmly onto heavy rod tips and flash brightly against the dark gulf sky to signal a strike. Packaging List: 100pcs = 1box = 50bags. Diameter: 4.5mm * Length: 37mm = 1.5 inch. These Fishing Glow Sticks are by far the most user friendly and cost the least. These Fishing Glow Sticks are less than half the price of the fishing store.

The Universal Jetty Station: Mobility & Maintenance

Regardless of which section of the 800-meter span you are fishing, the salt spray of the Copper Coast is unforgiving. If your tools aren’t built to handle marine environments, they won’t last a season.

Tackle Management: KastKing Saltwater Resistant Tackle Bag

A shoulder-slung, non-slip bag is much easier to manage on the long walk than a rigid plastic box. It organizes your light float kits and heavy sinkers perfectly.

KEY FEATURES - Store up to (7) 3600 size lure boxes with terminal tackle, fishing lures, and fishing tools - Super tough water resistant long-lasting 420D ripstop nylon material - 12 internal and external storage pockets for fishing tackle - Neo-grip anti-slip shoulder bag strap for comfort - Waterproof non-slip compression molded bottom - Resilient no rust, self-healing zippers - Fishing gear dimensions 15”x 11”x 10.25”

The Unfair Advantage: Black Magic UV Black Light Torch

Keep this in your pocket. A five-second blast will completely supercharge the luminous tape on your Snook lures or the glow bellies of your Yamashita squid jigs.

PURER BLACK LIGHT 395NM. Our 365nm black light flashlight features a multi-layer filter lens that blocks 99% of visible light, delivering superior UV purity and stronger fluorescence, ensures faster, more reliable results with minimal uncertainty. The uv light torch also used for uv resing curing, uranium glass, A/C leak detection.
